Hedge funds are the leading edge of asset management and Wall Street innovation.
Amazingly, they offer their services with an extremely lean organizational model.
It is not unusual to find a $500M to $3B hedge fund with just 10-20 people on staff.
We believe that they succeed because they hire the best and the brightest people,
with the ability to work under great pressure.
Hedge funds are exposed to organizational key-man risk and manual processes, which
is why they cross-train their staff on various business functions. We have observed
that people who work in the hedge fund industry have a tremendous appetite for learning,
but they are not often given formal opportunities for training. Most funds don’t
have programs for training new employees, opting instead for the true-and-tried
approach of BBF (Baptism by Fire).
In our consulting practice, we are often asked to analyze, document, and optimize
operational workflows, and provide a framework for formally training hedge fund
staff on various internal business functions. We help hedge funds in building intranet
portals and document repositories to centralize information flow. We recommend the
use of Microsoft’s Share Point portal software for such development.
We have also been asked to offer professional trainin in Finance/Derivatives,
and Technology. Our proprietary curriculum in financial markets and derivatives
was developed by our management team, based on their graduate studies and professional
experiences at firms like Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, Bank of NY Mellon, et al.
